Throwing Star Wolf Moon Crescent

Throwing Star Wolf Moon Crescent

This throwing start is one of my longest and toughest design so far, every single curve and side had its own unique problem that I had to over come. This is my second time designing this star since the first one was unable to be fixable and also loosing the file as well and having to start from scratch again. I have droughts on the actual usability of this star but I just really like the design of this. I will be printing this off and will give my own feed back on how it works out and if it strong enough to use. I would greatly appreciate any negative or positive feed back on the design and the solid form of this star. Enjoy Directions If you want to make the full throwing star, print off both side of the star then with fine sand paper smooth down the bottoms of both sides, use a type of epoxy or other method of sticking them together and let harden, then sand down excess epoxy, and smooth out the rest if desired. If your are using it as a wall hanger or display piece you may only want to print off the one side so it will sit flush against a wall or other display. Print Settings Printer Brand: Stratasys Printer: uPrint SE Supports: No Resolution: .01 Infill: Solid Notes: I am using the 3D-printer at my high school, Collingwood Collegiate, that has support material. But this design is able to be printed off almost every type of printer due to having no support material needed. How I Designed This A lot of failed attempts. when designing this piece I made it three different sections, the blade portion, upper section running from the blade, and the center cylinder with the wolf moon crescent. lining up these 3 sections to fit on one another was the most difficult part of the build. Even now, the portion running from the blade to the cylinder has a bit of a lip to it, and after some time i will remove that. To make the wolf crescent I used a photo and traced around the outline and extruded it up. After I had the negative portion, then sliced it "solid, Subtract" from the middle which I found was the most simplest method from recent attempts. Making the curves was done with A Lot of attempts of using different surfaces and solids to cut out the curves from the original solid. I am happy with this design and it came out pretty exact to how I imaged it, in my first thoughts.
