Time & Tide Pocket Watch

This two-part decorative piece represents the idiom ‘time and tide wait for none.’ 1) For minimized bleeding of darker colours (such as brown, blue and black) into lighter colours, it is recommended that users set the variable transition lengths to strong and increase the “maximum transition length” (Project Settings>Transition>Variable Transition Lengths). A recommended “maximum transition length” for this print is 220 mm because colours such as white and clear are prone to bleeding. 2) This model is split into two separate prints: one for the base with the waves and another for the cover of the pocket watch. Supports are needed for both prints (Project Settings>Supports>Turn On). Opting for clear filament for the supports can help reduce the appearance of marks left by supports. Please check the names of the files to determine which file belongs to which part. 3) It is recommended that users print both parts of this model at a size of at least 300% to ensure that the smaller details on the cover print clearly. Please ensure that both prints are scaled by the same amount. 4) The cover of this model includes many small details. If you decide to print the cover with the flat surface laying on the build plate, the pieces on the first layer will be prone to peeling off. In order to mitigate this, it is recommended that the print temperature of the first layer is increased by 5-10°C and that the first layer speed is decreased by 5-10 mm/s. It is also recommended that the fan is started at the 2nd or 3rd layer, and that glue is applied lightly on the build plate to help the filament adhere even further. 5) This print requires manual gluing of the two parts. There is a small cut on the base (near the yellow bar) where glue can be applied. A strong glue, such as super glue or a plastic bonding glue (which is what we used), is required. To allow the two pieces to set in place strongly, press down the two pieces for at least a minute and allow the piece to cure overnight (with something for the cover to lean on and not slip from position). When gluing the cover, remember to check that it is in the correct position (ie. 12 o’clock being at the top). 6) It is recommended that users slice the multi-colour print with both KISSlicer and Slic3r to determine which slicer creates a better preview, especially for the text and curved surfaces. 7) Project Difficulty: 4/5
