Tinkercad Tutorial: Cool Shapes

thingiverse

This is a Tinkercad tutorial for students of all ages to get your creative juices flowing! Use the resulting shapes for phone bling, zipper pulls, key rings, card fronts, window dangles -- whatever you can imagine! If you make some for installing behind a clear phone case, be sure to print them thin, ( .4mm ) Here's a video walk-through tutorial: https://youtu.be/pWhpClUsNlc The best part?! ---if you print these small, you can print them in just a few minutes, allowing more students to print per class period! Overview and Background Learn how to create patterns in Tinkercad, turning them into spirograph-like objects. Lesson Plan and Activity Make sure students all have a Tinkercad account. Watch video tutorial. For a cautious student, they can copy the objects being made in the video; for a more adventurous student, have them create their own shapes after watching how it's done. Scale student's objects as small as possible (The one designed shown here was printed at 33.33% in about 8 minutes) -- This allows several students to print per class period. If you want to bring Math into the lesson, discuss with your class how: -A circle has 360 degrees... -How many repetitions do you want to appear in your shape? -Use division to figure out how many degrees to rotate your pattern to get it to exactly copy into place Materials Needed Computer with internet access Tinkercad account 3D printer & fillament Skills Learned tinkercad design rotate mathematical shapes Duration of Lesson 1 or 2 class periods (1 or 2 hours, depending on student work speed) Preparation Make sure you have Tinkercad accounts for students, and filament for your (working) 3d printer!
