This is the Olympics Season. But what is different this time?Okay, there are many things different this time. Like, the beds are made out of cardboard, medals are made from recycled material from electronic waste. But… what I want to talk about is The Olympic Podium!Yes, you heard it right! It’s the Olympic podium. This time, the podium is made from recycled plastics and the podium is 3D printed. Yes, the Olympic podiums are made from recycled plastic and they are 3D printed. The podium was designed by Japanese artist Asao Tokolo. The podiums were made from 24.5 tonnes of recycled plastic and 3D printed.Over the course of nine months, the Japanese public donated the equivalent of 400,000 bottles of laundry detergent via more than 2,000 collection boxes that were installed in department stores and schools across Japan. The plastic waste was recycled and turned in to filaments and these filaments were used to 3D print all the 98 podiums that’ll be used in the Olympics. Each podium is constructed of a number of small cube-shaped modules that were connected to form the traditional three pedestals. So, I designed the podium in Solidworks for available sketches in google and YouTube.Firstly, I designed one side of the podium and then copied and made the other 5 sides. After the module was ready, I stacked the modules to make the podium with few extra parts to make it look like the original one. The designs are rendered in Keyshot. The design is not 1:1 scale as the dimensions were not available.Resource: https://bit.ly/2UPvtez
