This is a two-piece wheel guard for a lathe toolpost grinder I'm building. SAFETY WARNING -------------------------- This is a safety device. If you choose to make one, **you are doing so at your own risk**. Be sure the materials and fabrication techniques you are using have the necessary strength for this application. A grinding wheel can fail and burst with considerable force and cause serious injuries and even death. The purpose of the wheel guard is to absorb the energy of a wheel failure, protecting the machine operator. Many common 3D printing materials and processes are not strong enough for this application. Always wear eye/face protection when using any machine tool. Assembly ------------- The cover is attached to the guard with five (5) 8-32 button-head screws. The 8-32 threads are modeled directly into the STL files, but may require cleaning up with a tap, depending on your fabrication method. The guard is attached to the body of the grinder with 1/4-28 button head screws and washers and 1/2" diameter standoff spacers. Be sure the supporting structure is able to withstand the impact of a wheel failure.
