How I imagine to make it workable - print upper and lower shell and middle part. Join 2 shells with paperclip pin and close on middle part. Put small rubber band with attached thin rope (painter) on outer part of closed shells- this is to keep them closed. Tie painter to craddle. When raft is thrown out or hoisted and swinged, band should slip off allowing shells to open. To make it more realistic there is insert- smaller shell to glue in the middle part with some metal load to keep middle part upright (in larger scale You can even make a tent - that will be a liferaft) Craddle should be secured to basement with 2 long pins. To release liferaft pull out upper (stanchions) pin and pick up craddle. Liferafts should fall off.
