The human eye can be augmented with a 4-inch camera obscura, large enough to trace scenes using a sheet of tracing paper placed carefully over the glass viewport. For simple viewing purposes, the viewport glass can be sanded smooth with fine sandpaper until its surface becomes diffused and transparent.
