Trash Bin Holder

Trash Bin Holder

I live in the area with pretty strong winds that can blow away even a full trash bin. So, I designed this thing to hold it in place and to allow an easy disconnect. First working prototype was printed in PLA and worked for about 6 months. It is still in working conditions, but PLA is PLA and the sun softened it. Use PLA only for shaded areas. I now reprinted it in several different materials - Nylon, Nylon reinforced with glass fibers, TPU. All work very well. Nylon based materials look better though. There are holes for cylindrical magnets (d=6mm, h=6mm). Magnets are not necessary but make it more convenient to operate. I glue magnets in with polyurethane glue (gorilla glue). You can get magnets from Ebay or Amazon - they are really cheap. For the 3mm version I used 2.85 diameter filament for axles and just melted it on both ends. For 4mm version I used 4mm screws (M4x20) screwed in from both ends right into plastic. For a brick wall I used masonry drill bit and masonry screws. Main part has elongated screw holes in case if your drill bit slips. To make a good fit I put the holders on the trash bin and then mark the screw positions through the holes. This way the holder can be adjusted slightly up and down. Pics description - grey material is glass fiber reinforced nylon. Red material is PLA support. Black holders were made from PLA (not good for sunny spots).
