Traxxas TRX-3 / TCP Gear Cover

thingiverse

Gear cover for the Traxxas TRX-3 and TCP vintage buggies. This is designed to allow the widest range of slipper clutch options and was developed in order to house the older Hydradrive based slipper clutch shaft (which is quite tall). There will be ample space for any other slipper clutch option chosen. This is a combination of a couple different designs with influences from other covers. This cover is interesting because Traxxas designed in cutouts for the turnbuckle so it's not 100% dust/dirt proof. The location is pretty protected, so it's less likely to pull in debris, but just something to be aware of. The plug is loosely based on an aftermarket flexible plug. This plug should be printed in a TPU filament to appropriately snap into the gear cover (with very high flow rates). If you want to use the original plug, you will need to resize the hole. Similarly, if you are finding that the plug is loose, you may want to decrease the hole diameter to better fit the plug. I have tested with up to a 84T spur gear. You may be able to fit something larger inside the cover but it would be very, very tight (especially to the turbuckle). Given the low FDR of the transmission, this can make it a bit tricky for higher powered brushless motors, but the plastic gears/ball diff may not be up to the challenge. NOTE: This will not work with any 272 transmission equipped vehicles. Also, the cover is really large but will not impact suspension travel at all. I can make a version that is slimmer for those who are using the original slipper or the A&L power clutch.
