Effectiveness of our scanning strategy on rusted metal material, using a metal cutout of the Teesside University logo. Metal is difficult to scan with laser and structured light (especially light) because it scatters scanner beams, and reflects textured back to the scanner. This can cause large discrepencies between scans. Altering the scanning strategy can account for this well, although some blurring will still occur. Metal parts are usually good to scan, but complete metal objects are much more difficult. HP 3D Scanner based on structured light was used.
