21JUN: Updated model and added 3D files Due to the single piece 3U frame this design is limited to FDM or SLS, but since the current materials may not have sufficient rigidity, I have included panels that can be inserted to stiffen the frame when the components are loaded. 1. End Panels (Blue, Green) 2. Centering Panel (Red) to center a stack of circuit boards and spacers 3. Stiffening Panel (Orange) to add stiffness to 3U frame 4. Tuna Can (Yellow) I originally drew this model while on a flight to Hawaii. While walking around the hotel I suddenly came upon a sculpture that resembled my 3U design, complete with a "tuna can!" - Deja vu? -------------------- My initial "Unipanel" concept included slightly arched internal walls, but kept the outer walls flat to better accommodate flat solar panels. This more tubular design relies on advances in flexible solar panels that can be applied to curved surfaces. The slightly arched sides add strength and provide additional clearance for internal components. The model is drawn with the origin at the center of the CubeSat, allowing a 1U version to be created simply by changing the extrusion length (Note: To create the 0.5mm asymmetry of the 1U, extrude 49.75mm in one direction and 50.25mm in the other before mirroring rail extensions).
