TurboFan or FanJet Engine

Turbofan jet engines, a common aircraft propulsion system, combine gas turbine engines and ducted fans for mechanical energy extraction from combustion to accelerate air rearwards. The bypass ratio, the mass flow of air bypassing over core mass flow, classifies engines as low-bypass or high-bypass turbofans depending on their fan thrust-to-jet thrust ratios. High-bypass types dominate commercial aviation, while military fighters usually employ low-bypass engines; afterburners are used in some low-bypass or turbojet engines but not in high-bypass turbofans.
