I have been trying to install an external barometer on my racing quad. Finally, I made a design to shield the barometer from turbulence from the propeller and the wind outside. The special thing about this cover is that it only have contact with the atmospheric air through a zigzagging (as you can see in the pictures) line that eliminate all type of air movement. In the video showing the instructions for assembling the barometer setup, I also compare the performance of 3 different barometers: BMP180, BMP280, MS5611. Among the 3, BMP180 is very cheapest and MS5611 is almost 10 times more expensive compare to the other 2. Once being shielded using the same type of cover, each barometer unit was soldered on my racing drone (F4 flight controller). I showed quickly how to setup each barometer in BetaFlight and a quick observation on computer. The drone was then brought outside for testing in the real flying conditions. Among the 3, BMP180 perform the worse in term of drifting. The altitude drift without any movement very rapidly. The BMP280 drifted slower but the behavior is pretty much the same as BMP180. The MS5611, being the most expensive of the 3, performed the best. The FPV goggles showed very little drift in altitude with MS5611. After flying the quadcopter up and down a few times, the landing spot was very closed to the the taking of spot, the altitude get back to the same level every time. To conclude, the winner is the MS5611.
