The yatagan is known as a specific weapon of the famous Turkish janissaries. In addition to Turkey, the scimitar was used in the armies of the countries of the Middle East, the Balkan Peninsula and South Transcaucasia. Scimitars also fell to the Cossacks-Zaporozhians, but already as trophies after successful campaigns. Scimitars were mainly used by infantrymen (originally the Janissaries were exactly the Sultan's elite infantry) in close combat. The attacking strikes of the scimitar were carried out mainly with a point and a concave blade. The design features of this blade allowed the warrior to deliver very effective slashing and cutting blows. Defensive beats were carried out both with the sidewall of the weapon and with a non-pointed convex butt. When repulsing a blow with a concave blade, much more reliable control of the enemy blade was provided, but at the same time, the ability to deliver lightning-fast counterattacks due to the sliding rebounds inherent in the saber was lost. Nevertheless, the scimitar is lighter, more maneuverable and more convenient than a saber in a cramped pedestrian dump.
