Description

An affordable Arduino Turntable designed for Time lapse photography. It can also be used for Photogrammetry or Video by adjusting the code.

By default it triggers the camera then turns a predetermined number of steps then waits for the delay period.

This is the second version of the design, the first version has been running in my camera studio for the last few months without any issues. I have tested it with up to 1.5kg with the LO gear, with the HI gear about 0.5kg is more realistic.

Coming soon: Plant pots designed for grow timelapses.

G-Code included for Prusa i3 Mk3, components should also fit a Prusa Mini print bed.

Assembly video

Instructables

Update 08.06.2022

Nema 17 motor mount is finally here! Now you can attach a 1.0A pancake stepper (ca23mm) or by using the 40mm leg extenders a 1.8A (up to 48mm) motor.

Using a Nema 17 provides a lot more flexibility with control options as well as more power and speed. I recommend using the finest microstepping your driver allows, I'm using 1/16 with the A4988 driver.

I use and recommend the Pine R motion controller from Black Forest Motion, they can be picked up for about 150€ second hand.

Pictured is a CNC shield and 20mm pancake Nema 17

Update 01.06.2022 V1.2

Adjusted mounting holes for stepper driver

Added extrusion for attaching 2.5mm camera trigger socket

Decreased length of center column a smidge

Update 02.05.2022 V1.1

New Turntable top and base. The Base must now be printed with supports, however an axial (thrust) bearing up to 20mm diameter can be inserted into the middle column, use the bearing carrier and shims as required to ensure the top rotates freely.

The Lo gear cover has been redesigned to eliminate the idler gear.

Photos to follow.

Components required:

3D printed parts set, about 18hours and 7$ worth of material.

28BYJ-48 Stepper motor and driver

Arduino (or other microcontroller

PC817 optocoupler and resistors (for camera trigger)

Power supply for Arduino

Note: some links are affiliate, which means I earn a small amount when you use them to make a purchase at no extra cost to you. I appreciate your support!
