Specs: Wingspan: 1290 mm Length: 920 mm Est. AUW: 800-1400 g CG: 45-55mm from the leading edge of the wing center section for a lightweight plane (under 1000g). More forward for a heavier plane. Info: How the wing and battery hatch is installed and locked in place: https://youtu.be/bBzZxjv4j0I?t=51 Do not take off with flaps on the maiden. It's a bad idea with any plane, but this one has a lot of pitch coupling with flaps so it's extra serious here. If your plane ends up very light, ~900 g, then you can balance it at the more rearward CG if you like. A heavy plane at over 1100 g should be balanced at the more forward end of the range. This is a completely redesigned model based on my old Simple Hercules. This new design has control rod channels, servo bays, and is much more refined for easier printing and assembly. By printing in vase mode you don't get any wasted material inside and the surface finish is much better. It also makes it easier to print from heat resistant materials like PCTG or very light foaming materials like LW-PLA. The Gunship prototype in the photos was printed from clear and grey PCTG and then painted with Fosco Army Paint. All the major parts like fuselage parts, H- and V-tail parts, control surfaces, flaps and nacelles can now be printed in vase mode for best result. I have printed one from PCTG (heat resistant and great plastic) which weighs 1260-1360 g with 3S 1500-3000 mAh lipo and 2206 1500 kv DWX motors. Maiden flight: https://youtu.be/IFvVT9St5As I have also printed one from LW-PLA which weighs 800 g with 2S 2200 mAh lipo and 1806 2400 kv drone motors. Maiden flight: https://youtu.be/B1gbl90HPEc Motors: -The DWX motors I use require that the shaft is replaced with longer 3x40 mm carbon rods. To do this you need to heat the part with the screws that hold the shaft to soften the thread locking compound, HEAT IS IMPORTANT, and press out the old shaft with a vise as shown in the instructional photo. Don't bend the can when doing this. -Other typical 28 mm outer diameter drone motors with 16 mm bolt patterns on the back can be used with Nacelle04.STL instead. -Smaller drone motors can be used with Nacelle05.STL. Propellers: -The propellers with 3mm in the name are for the DWX motors or similar 3 mm shaft motors. Use two M3x12 or similar grub screws to secure to the shaft, preferably with a flat spot on one side of the shaft. -The propellers with 5mm in the name are threaded for CCW motors. Mirror them in the slicer if you use CW motors. -Don't use these props in high power setups like running them on 4S or with very high kv motors. They are only designed for this plane. Build notes: -Before you glue Fuselage06 ensure that you are finished with the rudder control setup as Fuselage06 closes up the tail and makes it inaccessible. Tack glueing is a good idea here to make it possible to remove 06 without damage. -Take care to always check fitment before glueing. -Before you glue on the Vstab make sure you finish the elevator control setup because the Vstab makes that inaccessible. -The elevator torque rod should be bent by first bending one end, then sticking it through the fuselage and the control arm, and then bending the end when it's in the fuselage. If it's too hard to bend 2 mm piano wire you can substitute 1.6 mm piano wire instead. -The nose wheel steering should be assembled before glueing Fuselage01 to Fuselage02, including the 1 mm piano wire that goes to the rudder servo.
