Twilight Imperium Trophy

Twilight Imperium Trophy

thingiverse

This is my first attempt at creating a traveling trophy for those, like myself, who regularly battle it out on Twilight Imperium with friends. Or enemies, for that matter. Everything works and fits together as intended, though I hope to design a more advanced and refined version in the future. For example, the imagery in the crest isn't even specifically from anything related to TI. It just looks cool and sci-fi-ish. In my opinion. I want to incorporate more themes from the game itself in the next one. ANYway... I've included an exploded view to show how most of it fits together. Note that the side plaques, where the names shall be written in the finest of Sharpies, are not included in the exploded view. I designed this one in SolidWorks. I think I'm missing something, but STL files exported by SolidWorks have a tendency to wind up rotated the wrong way in Cura. I say this just to apologize. The purpose of the "Sandplate," along with the empty space on the bottom of the base, is to provide the option to provide weight to the trophy. Print out the base, fill the inside with something (I used ball bearings and sand, hence the name), then seal it shut with the sandplate. The plaques should fit easily in the recessed areas of the base, assuming no more than a single application of spray paint. I printed out the base in gray PLA, sprayed it (twice, lightly) to get a brown hammered metal look, then applied a small amount of glue to the plaques (printed in white) and snapped them into place. My recommendation for glue is 2-part epoxy. Also note that the text on the "TI Plate RV1" ("Traveling Trophy") has a tendency to come out a bit rough on some printers. At the very least it'll need some cleanup post-print. Pax Magnifica Bellum Gloriosum! (I'll update this with a link whenever I manage to design the updated trophy.)
