UK Mains socket or light switch spacer & surface box with PIR occupancy switch adaptations

thingiverse

I recently decided to install PIR switches to save electricity at home. I found some low cost ones on the internet but they were too deep to swap with the existing light switches. I needed a solution... This "thing" has been designed to act as a standoff so the PIR switch sits around 15mm further out from the void of an existing standard switch. OpenSCAD design is included so it can be adapted for different standoff sizes or uses. This design does not need thread inserts. I have also included a surface box design for where you need to install a PIR in a new location without a cable void. This design needs 2 * M3.5 thread inserts. Print with 2 or 3 line walls at 25% infill (with 0.5mm nozzle) Print using high temperature filaments to avoid any heat generated by electrical current warping / distorting the design. WARNING - mains voltages and currents are dangerous. Do not attempt electrical work unless qualified to do so. This design and the materials used in 3D printing are not approved so use at your own risk. By downloading, you assume all responsibility for use, misuse and all associated consequences! The low cost PIR I am using is: https://lowenergysupermarket.com/product/selection-switch-pir-occupancy-sensor/ The M3.5 brass thread inserts are: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/362615185637 (or search ebay for BRASS THREADED INSERTS KNURLED PRESS IN INSERT NUTS FOR PLASTICS M3.5)
