Ultimate Movement Tray for Kings of War

thingiverse

This is my attempt at coming up with a "one tray to rule them all" design for wargaming - specifically Kings of War (but it could be used for any wargame that uses 28mm scale minis). This is for regiments of models with 20mm bases. I will be making a few variations of this tray for troops and hordes, and for cavalry bases as well as 40mm monster-sized bases. I'll upload those to this file as I create them. There are two pieces to this tray, with about 0.2 mm of space per side between them, so if your printer is calibrated nicely, they should snap right in to each other. This tray assumes that you have magnetized your minis. The lower piece has an indentation for you to insert a 1mm thick galvanized steel tray. Then you can use a bit of super glue to fix the lower piece inside of the upper piece, creating a sturdy, magnetized tray. Tray sizes should be equal to standard KoW bases; i.e. 100mm x 80mm for regiments, 100mm x 40mm for troops, etc. The upper piece is made up of twenty 21mm x 21mm slots. (I tried 20mm at first, but it was a bit of a tight fit for some of the minis.) There is a 2mm grid giving a bit of space between each mini. I had problems with some of my minis bumping elbows/shields when they were on a more condensed tray, so this design gives them enough breathing room that your minis should fit snugly without being overcrowded. Overall the footprint of this tray is slightly larger than a simple gridless tray, but it isn't overly large, and it looks nicer to have a bit of space. There is a tray for small dice to be used as wound markers in the back, which is an idea I got from a few other trays I've seen on here. You will want to use supports when printing the upper piece! I set Simplify3d to autogenerate supports at 1mm size and it worked perfectly.
