Uncanny Owl

Uncanny Owl

Just in time for Halloween, a combination of everyone's favorite 3D printed owl and Adafruit's "Uncanny Eyes". The Uncanny Eyes over at https://learn.adafruit.com/animated-electronic-eyes-using-teensy-3-1/overview are certainly creepy, but they needed a face. Enter Cushwa's famous owl statue at https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:18218. Yes, I know owls generally don't have slit pupil eyes, but this one does, and you will feel the hairs on the back of your neck stand up when it looks at you. If you use the 128x128 TFT or OLED displays by Adafruit, you will want to print out the display enclosures over at https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1002413. I first bought the TFT displays from Adafruit, but then later switched over to OLED. I will be honest, the OLEDs make a big difference. The blacks are totally black, and the viewing angle is much wider. The Adafruit modules are very nice, but also include an SD card module you don't need for this project. For a cheaper alternative, head over to eBay or Aliexpress and purchase a 128x128 OLED that looks like the one I've included in the list of images above (the one showing the image of the green watch). You can find them for roughly $15 a piece. If you use two of these, print out the enclosure I've included with this project. The owl face can be printed without supports. A built-in support keeps the eye cutouts from sagging. You will need to cut this out after the print.
