Underwater Cities Organizer - OPINIONATED

thingiverse

This is a organizer for the board game, Underwater Cities (RIO GRANDE EDITION). Before starting this project, I took at look at what was available on Thingiverse for an organizer for Underwater Cities, and found https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3453457 (@Nayr090) and https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4142671 (@IAmTheOneWhoMakes). While both of these designs indeed organized the components, there were some things about them that I wanted to change, and so I set off on my journey to create an _opinionated_ organizer. Here were my opinions: 1) **Prefer shallow and wide over narrow and deep.** I want the pieces to be accessible in trays, for people of all hand sizes, rather than difficult to reach into. I knew this meant I needed to create a stacking system in the box to get everything to fit 2) **Re-use as much of a base design as possible.** I want the design work to be easy, so I should generalize and parameterize the Fusion360 files I am working with so that I can organize multiple types of components simply by specifying different box dimensions 3) **Leave room for the expansion should I decide to buy it.** I want to be able to put more in the box without totally re-doing all my work. I took what I learned from looking at my predecessor's work (namely that the Era Decks should be stood upright and that player pieces should be organized in the very clever way devised by @Nayr090), and then re-designed everything from scratch. While I didn't use either of my inspirations' files, I did design heavily around them for the parts I wanted to use for my own design, so I want to give them ample credit. As shown in the pictures, there is about 0.5 cm box lift with the cardboard and rulebook on top. I don't mind it, and I don't think this can be avoided unless one lays the Era Decks on their face, which would use more horizontal space. Also, Thingiverse has no option for the Prusa Mini, but that is indeed what I printed this on. Finally, if Thingiverse had let me, I would totally post this as a remix of the original design. At the time of posting, that feature was not working. My apologies.
