Univers Revolved is an art project from Ji Lee, http://pleaseenjoy.com . It takes the roman alphabet and remakes it into a set of 3D, solid objects with axial symmetry. Words can then become objects, letters stacked, attached, etc... Check out the possibilities at the www.universrevolved.com website. When I saw this online a week ago, I knew I had to get it onto Thingiverse, so I reached out to Ji Lee, who was kind enough to grant permission, and express some interest in what we do here. We're hoping to print out a few of these and go see him with a MakerBot soon. With permission from the artist... Thanks, Ji Lee! Instructions This was modeled in Sketchup, easy and fast. The Sketchup file on this page is a reference for the 'real' Univers Revolved, in that the letters retain internal cavities that would be invisible in a 3D print. The STL file of the whole alphabet does NOT contain those voids, since it is intended for printing. Note that many of the letters have large overhangs, and will need to be printed with support material. I've skeinforged the file successfully with and without that option active, see the screenshots. Hopefully I can make a few test prints next time I'm at NYCR to see how the support material works out. Lastly, I will be adding STL files for individual letters over time, but I saw no reason to wait until A thru Z were done to release the whole alphabet. Lastly, on the issue of licensing: I'm listing this as CC-Attribution(to Ji Lee, not to me!)-Non-Commercial-No Derivatives until Ji Lee tells me otherwise. You are explicitly welcome to print alphabets out and play with them and spread them around.
