Faced with several demands from friends and family to create phone docks of varying sizes, with/without silicon cases etc I decided that the correct way to go was via FreeCAD and Python. FreeCAD is an open source 3D modelling program that can be used via its GUI or programatically via Python scripts. Read Instructions to learn how to modify the Python file and create your very own phone dock. Instructions The PDF file is a highlighted version of the Python file. The lines coloured RED may be modified as follows: BaseX/Y/Z define the overall size of the dock. InsertX/Y/Z define the size of the slot cut out for the phone. InsertSlope defines the angle of the slot from vertical. InsertDepression is the depth of the slot. InsertOffset is the distance between top front edge of base and front edge of slot FilletRadius defines the radius of rounding the dock edges. output_stl_file is where to write the completed STL file. Edit the python script as necessary, SAVE IT (easily forgotten) then execute it within FreeCAD, take the created STL file and print away.
