(Cookie Cutter) Get out a flat, clean sheet of paper. (Tracing Shapes) Lay out your clay / play dough in a flat shape. (Modeling Shapes) Steps Flatten out cookie dough using a rolling pin. Once you have reached the desired thickness, press the cutter into the dough to cut out the desired shape. (Cookie Cutter) Lay your shape flat onto your paper.
