Recycle your empty Prusament spools into beautiful table lamps with a retro touch!
Customizable and easy assemby, no glue or screws required!

Print instructions

What you need:

A led light strip (or any other light source that will fit and don't get too hot)

An empty Prusament spool

A 3D-printer and some nice colored filament (for the shade I use Prusament orange and it works perfectly, with one layer it's translucent)

Parts needed for basic lamp:

base.stl

spool-attachment.stl

shade.stl (vase-mode print)

</ul>

I recommend to also print section.stl for a longer base, you can use as many as you want!

The Light strip:

I've tried different light strips, all of them worked. The cable for the light strip is guided inside the lamp in the base, so make sure that the light strip is not to wide or you wan't be able to fit it. For cool effects use a light strip with built in effects such as waterfall and fading etc. The colors of the light strip won't matter as much since the shade will change the color. The color from the light strip will however be visible on the pattern below the lamp.

Print settings:
shade.stl
The shade is designed to be printed in vase-mode. If you keep bottom layers to 2 or 3 it will be a nice top for the lamp, but you can also print with no bottom layers if you want to have an empty top which will create nice patterns on your ceiling. I've used a 0.6mm nozzle with 0.4mm layer heights but i'm sure any nozzle and layer height will do just fine.

base.stl, spool-attachment.stl and section.stl

No special setting or supports is needed. I've used 10% infill and 2 perimiters. You might need to add a brim for section.stl.

Assembly

The assemby is pretty self-explanatory, however please see the attached assemby picture. The only tricky part is to wire the led strip around the Prusament spool and then fitting it down the tube and base. You might need to cut a hole in the Prusament spool tube in order to fit the wire to the light strip. On the bottom of the base there's a cut-out for the wire, there is also two holes where you can securely attach the wire with left over Prusa zip ties (another upcycling yey!)

Updates

Please check back for updates! Planned update is to be able to stack multiple Prusament spools. If you have suggestions or anything else please let me know by leaving a comment, thanks! Happy printing! :)
