The topology is ok, mostly quads and a few triangles for convenience. Ran checkmate pro script and there are no overlapped faces,... Boundary edges are chamfered so it looks nice even at closeups and you can easily discern state boundaries. Of course every state is a seperate model which could be put aside if prefered. You can change position, height of each state to get more asymmetrical and pleasant view as you can see on some of the preview images. I think you can get pretty good results if you want to make an animation.
