The Uzi submachine gun was designed by Major Uziel Gal in the late 1940s, but the prototype was not finished until 1950. The Uzi uses an open-bolt, blowback-operated mechanism, and the open bolt design exposes the breech end of the barrel, which improves cooling during periods of continuous fire. This Uzi uses two safety mechanisms: the first is a selector switch, used to select automatic, rifle and safety; the second is palm operated lever which must be depressed before the trigger can be operated. The model includes all of the parts used to make the standard weapon, including an extendable stock, 15 capacity magazine and complete trigger mechanism. I have tried to be as accurate as possible, but the details of some parts may not be 100% accurate. Also, in areas like the front and handle grip ribs, I have had to simplify them to keep the model under 10MB. It was drawn at 1000x scale (1mm = 1m) to avoid SketchUp bugs with drawing very small triangles.
