This mastodon 1st sacral vertebra was 3D scanned on February 10, 2020 in the Smithsonian Institution National Museum of Natural History Department of Paleobiology with a Go!Scan 50 3D scanner. A letter dated November 18, 1910 associated with the fossil states that it was collected by Mr. Stanley Brown from northern California “either on the western side of Sacramento Valley in Tehama County or near Honey Lake in Lassen County.” More information on this specimen can be found here: http://n2t.net/ark:/65665/39debcc24-a196-4d2a-b6c1-2044ddbe85c8.
