Valve Index Counterweight

Valve Index Counterweight

thingiverse

This is a counterweight to balance the front-heavy Valve Index VR headset, using pennies. It is compatible with the Index's "Headset Cradle Adapter" (the foam pad meant for smaller heads). Included is also a version that redirects the cord upwards in case an overhead tether is used. Glue the cover to the sleeve to form the penny holder which is then attached to the base with a couple #6 sheet metal screws. Screw holes will probably need to be drilled to the correct size. The counterweight is attached to the Index headset via velcro cable ties (the slots can accomodate 1/2" or narrower). I found the balance was good with 77 pennies, but the sleeve section can be scaled in Z to adjust how many can fit. If the number isn't divisible by seven, fill up extra space in any shorter stacks with tape or foam or whathaveyou (see picture). Cover all stacks with a couple layers of tape until the fit is tight enough when assembled to prevent rattling. Step versions of all models are included to facilitate customization. Base that attaches to the headset is also a separate piece so you can print it alone and attach whatever weights you want.
