Vase with the Triumph of Amphitrite

Vase with the Triumph of Amphitrite

myminifactory

This ornate monumental vase was one of the many sculpted works that decorated the park of Versailles during the reign of King Louis XIV; it was placed in the North parterre. Like the companion piece (on display next to it at the Louvre), it is decorated with marine triumph. Amphitrite, wife of Neptune (god of the sea in Roman mythology), is recognisable in this scene.
