A vertical version of my horizontal https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:5850597 2 AA battery case to power four to five red or yellow LED sky lanterns (https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:832440) in a remixed battery case https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1096639 that has two sliding lids to access wiring and batteries, an on/off switch, and eye hook for hanging. **Improvements:** The vertical design is more aesthetically pleasing and makes it eaiser to wire the lanterns to the battery box. In addition, it gives access to the wires if they become loose or short out. The lid grooves for the one-piece design have been strengthened, but the long sides of both lids still need to be shaved to slide smoothly into the battery case. A wire escutcheon covers the hole in the battery box and the Happy Chinese New Year – 新年快乐 (xīn nián kuài lè) decorations are now in the traditional vertical orientation. There are two battery cases where the eye hook orientation is rotated 90 degrees. **Battery Case Assembly:** (1) Make battery prongs out of stainless steel zip ties as described in https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1096639. (2) For a solder-free connection, drill two 1/16" (1.5 mm) holes at the end of two of the prongs; insert these two prongs at the top of case (see photo) near the eye hook. (3) Bend and twist the prongs of the black switch (see pic) to slide behind the battery prongs and attach the switch to the case with super glue. **Lantern Wiring Harness:** (1) Solder two 22 gauge wires to four to five red or yellow 5 mm LEDs (2.0 - 2.2 V; 20 mA). (2) Thread the LED wires up through each lantern hook and twist the two wires. (3) Thread the four of five lanterns through the cord corral. Twist the cathode and anode wires of the lanterns together, and solder a 10 Ω resistor and a 22 gauge hook up wire to the cathode and anode, respectively. (4) After cooling, thread the cathode and anode wires through the holes in the prongs and wrap each wire around the prong for a solder-free connection. **Decorations:** Both the wire escutcheon (cord corral) and Happy Chinese New Year are super glued to the battery case.
