Vestibular Apparatus / Labyrinth Ball Maze

Vestibular Apparatus / Labyrinth Ball Maze

This is a DIY project that is both educational and fun! The vestibular apparatus is located in the inner ear and is a key system in staying in balance. It is comprised of 3 semicircular canals, tiny calcium crystals, and a vestibule. The crystals normally live in the vestibule when your balance system is working properly. When they're out of place in the canals however--severe vertigo can occur! This is commonly known as Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV) and affects up to 30% of the population at some point in their lives. Our ball maze was created to help educate patients suffering from vertigo, students learning to treat it, and general anatomy nerds who love to blend science and fun!
