Vice Clams (Soft Jaws) for 3" vice magnetic
thingiverse
A neighbour repairs woodwind instruments in his spare time and asked if I could print off a set of vice clams (Soft Jaws). He has a requirement to hold 2 and 3mm ground rods to enable thread cutting with a hand die. The clams have sets of V grooves which hold the rods firmly but without marring the ground surface. I also added receptacles to house a pair of 8mm x 3mm neodymium magnets in each clam to prevent them falling off the vice jaws when opening. Printed in PLA plus, use 60% infill and 3 walls, 1.2mm wall thickness. Update 17Aug2020. I edited the file to only have a pair of horizontal V grooves instead of the original three. This was due to adhesion and warping limitation on my printer and the failure rate was around 50% but I suspect other folk would have suffered the same failure rate. With only a pair of V grooves, there is a much larger contiguous area on the bed and I've printed a further two sets without incident. I would advise against printing with supports, raft or brim as this fills the V grooves with filament and you'll spend ages trying to bust it out.
