Virpil VPC MongoosT-50CM2 Base Hydraulic Damper Frame

PLEASE READ ENTIRE POST: This is Version 3.3 of a frame that goes around the Virpil MONGOOST-50CM2 base and allows the attachment of dampers for a pseudo hydraulic dampening effect and trim hold function during specifically Rotary Wing simming (can be used by stuck wing simmers as well). I use this setup on DCS. This is a work in progress and will update regularly Performance: https://youtu.be/QB1D6Q0X-NY The exact damper used I will link below but any can be used so long as the ball end dimensions are 12mm wide and no greater diameter than 25mm. The ID for the eyelet should be 8mm. The nuts that are imbedded inside the print are M5. The .3mf file I attached has the pause added for nut insertion. If I could again I would increase wall thickness on the layers for the depth of those nuts as my first attempt had one of the nuts break away putting the top plate screws in. I enlarged the pocket for the screws in the top and with added walls this shouldn't be an issue. The frame attaches to the Virpil base using the existing M4 screws that hold the top and bottom plate of the base on. There is plenty of shank and with the addition of washers the unit is very solid once assembled. Post processing should be minimal. Supports are needed on the bottom pockets for the screws, and the left and right supports. All available in the .3mf file attached. The fitment between the virpil base and the frame is tight and firm. Dimensions are exact of the base just scaled up and .2mm added for printing tolerance. PLEASE use the test fit .stl first to ensure your printer will give you the fitment you need. Reach out if you specifically need an enlarged version. One user so far has reported a slightly too tight fit, with more reports I will adjust as necessary. The adapter for the Virpil extension requires taking apart the extension, to include removing the heatshrink and disconnecting the cable within the extension. Ensure you take care when disassembling and replace the heatshrink to ensure a tight connection. You will need two additional M4 screws to assembled it back together as the original 4 are retained. The adapter goes in between the bottom nut assembly of the extension and the shaft of the extension. Carefully examine the files for the cyclic adapter to match your setup and how you plan to mount the base. If in doubt reach out! This is a work in progress and feedback is requested. Its a big print and a lot of plastic depending on your settings so do not be afraid to reach out to me if you have questions before attempting the print. __________________ BOM (work in progress): __________________ - 2 x DAMPERS: (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07GKWFN7D/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_i_NM41QD8XTRA8G0P9HGMT?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1) - 4 x M5 X 25MM SOCKET HEAD SCREWS: (https://www.amazon.com/Socket-Screws-Stainless-Metric-Machine/dp/B09LYMLDJ4/ref=sr_1_10?crid=229350619KFFO&keywords=25mm%2Bm5%2Bsocket%2Bhead&qid=1650988358&sprefix=25mm%2Bm5%2Bsocket%2Bhea%2Caps%2C194&sr=8-10&th=1) - 2 X M8 BOLTS OF YOUR CHOOSING - 2 X M8 ID WASHERS WITH OD OF YOUR CHOOSING - 2 X M8 NUTS OF YOUR CHOOSING - 2 x THREADED INSERTS (optional): (https://www.amazon.com/uxcell-Knurled-Threaded-Insert-Embedment/dp/B07LBQGZ6F?th=1) __________________ Revisions: __________________ Rev 1 (10FEB2022) : .stl for virpil cyclic adapter was updated to rotate the upper screw attachments holes for the bottom of the extension 90 degrees to match the direction of the extension with the frame on the base. Previously, drilling of new holes was required. Rev 2 (23MAR2022): developed a cyclic shaft adapter for aftermarket cyclic shafts with 25.5MM OD and can also be used with dampers inverted. Also put together a video displaying both styles and their performance. Rev 3 (10APR2022): added a version of the base frame that has slots to allow putting the m5 nuts into the frame without installing them mid print if you choose not to use the.3mf's I provided. Rev 3.1 (26APR2022): Error identified in the upload for the slotted base .stl was corrected to be the BASE only. Previous version uploaded on 04/10/2022 had the base and top as one unit. Rev 3.2 (27APR2022): Uploaded new cyclic adapters that have m4 nut recesses instead of threading imbedded in plastic along with two orientations for whether or not you are chair mounting or desk mounting which also allows you to choose the direction you mount your cyclic stick extension if its is directional (example: using the S curve Virpil extension but desk mounting the base). Rev 3.3 (01MAY2022): Enlarged nut recesses on newer cyclic adapters. Also added test print for checking tolerance of printer against fitment of the frame with the Virpil body. __________________
