VIVE PRO WIRELESS ADAPTER BATTERY MOUNT (Below Adapter)

VIVE PRO WIRELESS ADAPTER BATTERY MOUNT (Below Adapter)

thingiverse

Allows the battery for the HTC Vive Wireless adapter to be mounted directly beneath the adapter on the HMD. This build was inspired by a comment in the comments section of dc5ezs's battery mount which suggested that a better design might be to mount the battery under the adapter rather than on top...so I thought why not? Now, I have no idea if it's actually a better design, as I have not actually used dc5ezs's mount, and haven't actually had much play time on this mount to see how it holds up over time, handles heat dissipation from the battery, etc., but it does mount fairly compactly, and I don't notice a big difference between battery+adapter as compared to just the adapter, though I can tell it's up there. The battery mount actually mounts directly to the bottom of the adapter using the same screw holes that the strap clip normally attaches to, which results in a very close mount between the wireless adapter and the battery. You will need to remove the original strap clip from the adapter and use those original screws to attach this mount. The bracket will be printed in several pieces and needs to be superglued together. I don't have detailed instructions, but take a look at the photos, as I think it should be fairly straight forward. The battery clips have indentations on the bottom side that align with the edges of the part that screws into the wireless adapter, so pay attention to that when gluing the parts together. The arm also needs to be glued in place, with the short elbow facing up (towards the adapter) on the upper side of the mount, and the long elbow facing down (towards the batter on the lower side. I recommend assembling everything without glue first just so you have a good feel for how it should go together. This will print support-less, but you may need to sand the elephant foot on the edge of the battery clips that touch the build plate so that the battery will slide in smoothly. Also, I used a bit of duct tape (sticky side down) inside of the clips just to help the battery hold firmly while still sliding in with fairly little effort. My original plan was to also model a strap clip for the bottom of the mount, but I found that it was unnecessary, as the entire thing can be attached directly to the head strap and head pad with a velcro strap. I used a couple of long velcro cable wraps I had laying around. Oh, it's worth noting that I used this with the Vive Pro adapter kit, so I have the larger foam padding for the head strap. I have no idea how well this will work with the standard Vive padding, or HTC's newer Cosmos headsets. If you try it, let me know in the comments. Again, very limited testing, so use at your own risk. Hopefully someone will find this useful. UPDATE 10/30/2020: Shortened the battery stop a bit so that that battery sits higher relative to the wireless adapter. This is a bit better balanced and the end of the clip doesn't hit up against the back foam on the headset. Also offset the battery stop guides on the clip so that it is easier to access the center screw when attaching or detaching the adapter. There is also now an image with close-up of how I have attached the entire apparatus to the HMD using velcro. Both loop around the battery clips (not the battery itself) to allow the battery to be removed/replaced without needing to re-attach the velcro each time. The lower velcro strip should wrap around both the strap and head padding, whereas the upper velcro strap wraps only around the strap and sits between the strap and the padding.
