The church is considered one of the oldest sacral edifices in Vodnjan, dating from the 12th century. The church was a pilgrimage site outside the city until the 17th century when the town developed and the church became part of it. The scanning and photogrammetry was done in 2020, after an extensive conservation and restoration works and research on wall paintings. The wall painting on the north shows St. Apollonia and the Mystical Engagement of St. Catherine. In the area of the apse, painting shows the figure of Christ with two male and female saints on each side. On the south wall, a part of the preserved scene with the saints at the table is visible, and on the west wall, a detail of the scene of the last judgment is revealed. In addition to the wall paintings, there are various engraved drawings (ships, coats of arms, stars, etc.) and graffiti (written in Latin and Glagolitic).
