Volcanicus Upgrades

It is a bit of a shame that the new Transformers Power of the Primes Grimlock does not come with a proper sword. So, I produced this model based on the sword used by the Dinobot combiner Volcanicus as featured in "Transformers: Earth Wars". This model features a 5 mm handle that will plug right into any 5 mm weapon or accessory port. And, the handle is long enough to plug through both the top and bottom "thumbs" on the Volcanicus fists. The model is intended to be printed in halves (precluding the need to use supports) and then glued together afterward. I printed a couple copies myself, both in ABS, and used "Plastruct Bondene" plastic model cement to stick them together. Acetone or cyanoacrylate (super glue, crazy glue) would also have worked just fine. If you print with PLA, cyanoacrylate will probably be the best choice. There are two versions of the model included in the downloadable files. Select the one that suits your printer best. The 2-piece version max part length is 151 mm. The 4-piece version max part length is 122 mm. Regardless of which version you print, the final assembled sword will be the same size. UPDATE! Volcanicus Torso Upgrade Now Available! I finally got around to finishing version 1 of a torso upgrade for Volcanicus that I've had on my mind for a while now. This upgrade accomplishes two goals: 1) Fill in the empty holes and areas surrounding Grimlock's T-Rex head, and 2) Provide additional stabilization to Grimlock's arms so they don't flop around and un-tab while rotating the combiner arms. This entire thing can be 3D printed without the need for supports. But, that means some glue assembly of parts will be required after you print them. Here is an overview of the parts as shown in the picture provided. The part at the 9 o'clock position plugs into the front of the torso and serves as the foundation for the upgrade. I also added a 5 mm hole on each side in case you want to plug in your spare Volcanicus fists. The cosmetic chest filler part at the 3 o'clock position will be glued onto the front of the foundation piece. The two red support tab parts at the 6 o'clock position will be glued onto the sides of the foundation piece to provide support for Grimlock's arms when in torso-mode. And, the part at the 12 o'clock position is just a "blank" chest filler part from which you can carve your very own custom chest design!! ANOTHER UPDATE!!! I modified the chest back piece so that the 5 mm holes on the sides now go all the way through the part...this should allow for a more secure fit for the extra fists. I also came up with a new chest front design (Dinobot V2). This revised design looks a hell of a lot better...in my opinion...and does away with some of the super tiny details that made the original version difficult to print attractively.
