Wanhao_i3_Filament_Guide
thingiverse
I recently purchased two Wanhao i3 printers, one for my daughter and another for myself, sparking a need for a reliable filament guide. While searching Thingiverse, I found an existing design that seemed similar to what I was looking for, but unfortunately, it didn't quite meet my expectations. After downloading and attempting to use this alternative solution, I encountered issues with it jumping off the printer. Undeterred, I took matters into my own hands and designed a new filament guide from scratch. Key improvements include longer legs that provide greater stability and require threading before inserting the filament into the extruder. Initial tests suggest that this updated design should remain securely in place. The model featured in the accompanying photo was printed on a Wanhao i3 V2.1 Printer using ABS filament, with no need for supports. However, I did employ a raft to ensure a smooth printing experience. For those interested in replicating this design, STL and 123D Design files are available for download. Here's a brief overview of how I approached the creation of this guide: The new filament guide simply sits atop the printer's top rail, allowing it to smoothly slide back and forth beneath the filament spool as needed.
