This is a larger than life memorial sculpture placed on permanent display in Armour Square in Brussels, Belgium. It was created by sculptor Victor Voets (1882 - 1950) in 1931 and commemorates the aid of war doves and messenger pigeons during World War 1. There are many other 'War Dove' monuments set up around Belgium though this one is considered most popular, depicting the dove flying from the personification of the Motherland in means of protection. There are scripts on the side of the base of the sculpture which read,"To the belgian fanciers who died for their country"and"1914-1918, To the pigeon soldiers"   This object is part of "Scan The World". Scan the World is a non-profit initiative introduced by MyMiniFactory, through which we are creating a digital archive of fully 3D printable sculptures, artworks and landmarks from across the globe for the public to access for free. Scan the World is an open source, community effort, if you have interesting items around you and would like to contribute, email stw@myminifactory.com to find out how you can help.
