Water Bottle Filter Cap

This 3D printed water bottle cap allows a variety of filters to be placed in the opening of water bottles, cleaning water as it is poured. Contaminated water is collected in the water bottle with the cap removed, and the cap is then screwed on with an appropriate filter placed inside. The water can then be used without fear of contamination. This design could greatly benefit communities who have little access to clean water or decontamination services.This design is intended to be printed in PLA (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polylactic_acid) and was originally intended to fit activated carbon filters, as they are widely available and relatively inexpensive. Activated Carbon has the ability to filter almost all macroscopic contaminants out of water, as well as many volatile organic compounds, but does not offer the ability to filter dissolved inorganic molecules.
