Water Rocket Launcher

thingiverse

Lock and release mechanism for a water rocket launcher. This version slips over a launch tube pipe which acts as a guide for the rocket as well as the main air inlet to pressurize the rocket. There are many resources and instructions on building your own rockets ranging from simple to multi-stage rockets with parachutes that you can try / experiment with. As with any pressurized vessel, precautions must be taken to ensure that no injuries occur. Recommend 50-90psi for pressurizing the rocket. These rockets can fly fairly high so be sure of your surroundings and nothing can be easily damaged by the falling rocket. Required parts: 1. PETG print is best for outside / sun exposure (compared to PLA at least) 2. Zip Ties (see image) - will need 16 of these to fit in the slotted holders for the lock 3. 1/2" standard pipe (~22mm or 0.84" OD) for launch tube (PVC may work but once o-ring grooves are in the plastic it might be too thin, i use galvanized pipe) 4. Elbow for launch tube for easier connection of air hose (can add extensions if desired as well) 5. Air hose connection of your choice to the launch tube 6. Rope for release lock ring 7. Spring or rubber band to pull down release mechanism 8. Water and some way to pressurize (can use a compressor or a bike pump depending on the air fittings you install)
