Weed Remover

Weed Remover

I'm trying to develop a printed part that will help me remove weeds from the lawn and garden. I saw a similar design in a hardware store awhile ago, but it was much bulkier and a bit expensive. Ideally, you should be able to get the prongs under the base of the weed vegetation and lever it out. Scale up or down as your printer's build volume affords. Note: I printed with supports because I find it easiest and quickest. Feel free to remix it or change orientation. Print Settings Printer Brand: MakerBot Printer: MakerBot Replicator Mini Rafts: Yes Supports: Yes Resolution: 0.15 Infill: 15% Notes: Switch layer height to 0.15 and infill layer height to 0.15 for nice resolution. I haven't tried it out yet (too much rain in NYC), but am confident 15% should hold up to the torque you're going to apply. How I Designed This I am a SOLIDWORKS user and created it with lofts. 1) Sketch a basic curve to the part. 2) Create a loft between two points and two other profiles (I used circles with lines going horizontally through the top and bottom, then trimmed the excess). SOLIDWORKS will not let you do both points at the same time; create two separate loft features and use selection manager. You'll need to create reference planes to sketch. 3) Create extruded cylinder for handle. You'll need another plane to sketch. 4) Add a cut revolve to the handle for grip. 5) Loft between the three bodies (2 earlier lofts and the 1 extrude). 6) Add a cut down between the prongs to help grasp the weed root. 7) Add a fillet to the top of the handle.
