Next up, fixing my weedeater. Troy-Bilt TB6040 XP. It's a four stroke weedeater, and a couple of months ago when weedeating the line feeder came apart and the two little metal spools went flying. I happened to spot one a few weeks later, but the other is missing in action. So with my new printer I decided I would print a couple of them up and give it a try. First, use these at your own risk. I only attempted this because I can't find substitutes without buying an entire line spool assembly and that isn't going to happen. I printed the first set, but they only lasted about one weedeating session. The second set I went in and reduced the diameter of the inner hole in an attempt to beef them up a little and give them some more plastic to wear down. I have not used the second set in the weedeater yet as the first design is still intact. I printed these with 100% infill as I wanted them as solid as possible. I also used supports so that the upper part would print properly. They are fairly easy to clean. When weedeating I did break one of the first two, but think it's because I hit something with it. I had another set I had just printed so I put them in and they lasted the rest of the session. The one that didn't break I took out and took a picture of and you can see the wear. That's what spurred me to go in and beef up the inside hole. WeedeaterLineSpool_TroyBilt4Stroke.stl matches the original more closely. WeedeaterLineSpool_TroyBilt4Stroke_smallerID.stl should be a little tougher and last longer, but I haven't tried these yet. They might be a little harder to get the line spooled initially since the inner diameter is smaller. Again, use at your own risk. These will be nowhere near as sturdy as the metal replacements, but might get your yard finished, then you can spend the rest of the evening trying to find replacements. Make sure and wear eye, or preferably face protection at all times when weedeating. I also wear long sleeves, pants and boots. Designed in FreeCAD 1.6. Print Settings Printer: MonoPrice Maker Select V2 Rafts: No Supports: Yes Resolution: .1 Infill: 100% Notes: I printed with the highest quality I could since these will see some extreme use. I wanted them as strong as possible.
