Whirlpool Atlanta pump impeller Problem description: Water gathers in the drier base and does not run into the reservoir, nor out the alternative pipe. Clothes stay wet. If you remove the condensor the inside is wet and water runs out. Problem cause: There is a floating switch in the base water reservoir that activates a pump. This pump is supposed to remove the base water either into the top drawer or out the back through the pipe (depending how you connected the drier). The whirlpool drier pump impeller is poorly designed and snaps off after a couple of years. The hub of the impeller is too thin. I redesigned the impeller to be a tight fit and to have a much stronger base. I printed it with semi-flexible TPE rubber. Take your time. TPE needs to run slowly. Instructions: Make sure the power cable is plugged out. Make photos of all the connections of pipes and wires you plan to disconnect. The metal panel edges are sharp so wear protective gloves or be careful. 1) Open the tumble drier back and top. 2) Remove the two screws holding the power connection to allow the back pannel to swing out of the way. 3) Then carefully remove the switch (simply slips off) then disconnect the plug connecting to the pump motor. (Don't damage the polystyrene float) 4) Then remove the three latches holding the pump in place. 5) Disconnect the pipes. Remember the positions or make photos. 6) Remove the pump. 7) Open the base of the pump to get to the impeller. 8) If its broken or fallen off locate it and remove it. 9) Now fit the new impeller. The fit needs to be tight; however, if its impossible to squeeze over then use a scalpel or needle files to make the fole a little bigger. I actually took a small side cutter and cut the shaft end a little smaller to fit through my impeller. If its not a tight fit it could fall off. So the tighter the better. 11) Make sure that the electric cables are nicely secured with cable ties and out of the way of the float and out of the way of the rotating drum and its rollers. 12) Reverse instructions to fit the pump back.
