Here is a concept that explores a technical point of view more than the aesthetic. But having said that the organic 'DNA' visual created by the spiral cut out from the straight ribs is quite pleasant. The idea is to have longer loops of string wound around two pins. When wringing needs to occur the handle is pulled up the shaft of the mop until it reaches the top stop the shaft of the wringer then start to screw the strings around each other and wring out the water similar to how one would wring the water out of a wet towel. I have used a screw because of the mechanical advantage achieved. It is unlikely one would get a full two turns of rotation as the design has, I couldn't count the total turns when testing with a towel it was just too difficult. A 3d printed prototype would soon sort out those gremlins. I would use nylon for the parts that come in contact with each other because of its low coefficient of friction and HDPE or ABS for the rest . judging by the website and products on it, Casabella isn't targeting the bottom end of the market. which is why the shaft is brushed stainless steel. Well actually the shaft is stainless steel because I couldn't find any oval profile carbon steel on the net. there is probably some nice aluminium extrusions out there that would also do the trick but it needs to be oval to stop the whole thing rotating around the shaft. peened rivets hold the string on.
