The only camera that I can confirm this works for is the D850 in "quiet continuous shooting" mode while in Live View. Even there, it requires a specific procedure to avoid damaging your camera. Some older film bodies also have a mirror lock-up mode, but I can't say which ones or if it functions in the same manner. This *may* work with mirrorless bodies using an F-Mount adapter, but again, I can't confirm that. Now that we've covered that, the fun part: I got tired of the fact that every body cap pinhole ever for Nikon sits between 47mm and 52mm because of the flange focal distance. Obviously going longer is easy, but I grew up in the school of "shoot wide, shoot low." I'd had the idea for a while, but I just recently discovered how to shoot my D850 without use of the mirror at all. Then I did some math and figured out how deep I could go inside the camera body and still get full coverage of a full frame sensor without clipping on the cap itself. As is, the pinhole sits about 28mm above the sensor. You'll need to make the pinhole itself, I recommend the tried and true soda can plus thumb tack plus sandpaper method. Cut it out to 6x6mm square, sit it in the center of the cap, and epoxy in place. Also, you're printing this to put on a stupid expensive camera body, and broken pieces can destroy your camera. Print hot and slow with the face down (cone up) and use a durable filament. Use small layers, 99-100% infill, and for god sakes, spend the extra 3 cents worth of plastic on supports to ensure the flange backers print level without droop. Procedure for shooting with D850 as follows: 1) Ensure your battery is good. A dead battery will drop the mirror on the lens and may cause damage. 2) Ensure "Quiet continuous in Live View" is ON. 3) Activate live view. 4) Attach the pinhole cap. 5) Use liveview to set settings and compose. 6) Shoot and repeat steps 5 and 6 until you're content or the battery starts getting low. 7) Remove cap. 8) Turn off live view.
