William Strutt designed his epicyclical geared clock in the late 1820's and his friend William Wigston built it. Because of the difficulties involved in making epicyclical gears very few were made by Strutt and Wigston. The visual fascination of epicyclical gearing (also more commonly referred to as 'sun and planet gearing') has subsequently inspired many copies of the clock... After completing the model, I conducted a study of the motion of the whole mechanism to find the size of the pendulum and clarify the properties of materials. As a result, I got the exact work of the whole mechanism in the model. It remains quite a bit: to make this clock in the materials and make sure that all the calculations are correct...
