Many creations for this competition have been specifically for the STEM fields, and this project is a shout out to the humanities and writing! And this one is cursive, the lost art that they are surprisingly not teaching in school very much anymore. Here we have a simple stencil to help young 3D printers of the future learn how to write in print letters. Learning to write with a utensil, not type with a keyboard, is a skill that can be extremely helpful for young minds when learning and memorizing letters, and also can be helpful towards anyone who is new to a language, spelling, or reading and writing. The Winnetka-Northfield Public Library District is home to a wonderful makerspace, known as The Studio, that is open to all; for this challenge, library staff banded together with ideas and possible entries for this competition. We have observed many schools and individuals entering Thingiverse's competitions, but have yet to see a library...until now! Many of these ideas and designs were inspired for our makerspace and remodeled youth department More about the Library District and The Studio: The Winnetka-Northfield Public Library District is a community resource for the advancement of knowledge, and a provider of innovative and informative cultural enrichment for all ages. The Studio is made possible by a generous gift given to the Library from the Staffileno Family, in order that the library create a space to honor the memory of Constance E. Staffileno. The Studio was created to embody Mrs. Staffileno’s love for art and art education, and to inspire generations of innovators and art enthusiasts.Located in the lower level of the Winnetka Library, The Studio features the latest technology and equipment, such as 3D printers, Adobe Creative Cloud software and a laser engraver, as well as classic art mediums like paint and canvas, to inspire and educate a community of artistic makers and creators.
