Added the Aluminum Extrusion STL, so that I can post this project. Ever been sitting in front of your spare parts and thought "This looks like there is a whole new printer hiding in here, but which design does fit..."? If so, you know exactly how this project, an upgrade kit based on the "Prusa i3 Bear" kit, started in the first place. I had plenty of 2040 aluminum profiles laying around and some sweet ball screws. If this was Tinder, it would have been a match. Sadly, there were no parts, upgrades, remixes or what so ever that would allow me to use said ball screws. So I started my own "fork" of the Prusa Bear, naming it the Ussuri (black Grizzly).
Feedback, thoughts and prayers are welcome.
This design is based on: Prusa i3 MK2.5 and Prusa i3 Bear
So I am standing on the shoulders of giants as the saying goes.
Join me on Twitch if you want to take a peek over my shoulder as I work on the design.
Current status
Rebooted the project, now that I have found the perfect spindel in a part called SFU1204. It is effortable, comes with industrial grade mounts and is availible to the publoic via variaous resellers. The Y axis is placed on two MGN12c rails. Another solid, yet effortable part.
Finished parts
- BF/BK10 spacers
Planed features
Integrating my recirculating ball screws ain't where I want to stop. So I am looking forward to come up with parts and attechments to provide the printer with the following features:
Energychains for all axes
mounts for diagonal reinforment rods (to stabilize the tower)
Mounting point for RepRap-FullColor Display
X-sled for the "side mount" Toranado Extruder
Improved spoolholder
