My ~2 year old really enjoys helping me build pillow and blanket forts in the house. However, we really dislike having to deconstruct them afterwards (who has time for that!). So I came up with a simple design that uses 3 wooden dowels (1 in dia x 3 ft; ~2.5 cm dia x 90 cm), a bed sheet/blanket, and a printed "hub" connector that allows for fast set-up and tear down.

The inner diameter of the hub is slightly undersized, to account for the surprisingly large variability in the dowel O.D. To ensure the dowels fit snug, consider wrapping painters tape (or similar) around the end of the dowel that will be inserted.

I strongly suggest to use PET/PETG! The test pieces that I printed using PLA ended up failing (layer separation) after only a few uses. I used 5 perimeters, and infill of ~20%.

DISCLAIMER: Please realize and respect that these "tripods" are not designed to be load bearing! They can, and will fail under stress. Adult supervision is strongly recommended.

Print Settings

Printer:

Craftbot 2 (modified)

Rafts:

No

Supports:

No

Resolution:

0.2

Infill:

20%

Filament: IC3D PETG clear

Notes:

5 perimeters (the more the better), and 5 layers top/bottom

Category: Toys & Games
